My name is Lori Wilson. I have attended over 250 births.  I have been the primary midwife for pregnant women since 1998 to the present.

The complications and emergencies I have seen include the following:  maternal hemorrhage, retained placenta, shoulder dystocia, prolonged labor, maternal hypertension, fetal distress, fetal demise, premature infant, oxygen needed by the baby and failure to progress in labor.  I have been trained to deal with emergency situations such as hemorrhage in the mother or respiratory distress in the newborn.

My cash discount fee is $1800.00 .  This includes a non-refundable down payment of $100.00 due by the first visit.  The balance is due by the 37th week of pregnancy. You may work out your own payment schedule on the financial agreement.  If you have insurance, my billing service will bill your insurance company for you.  I require that you pay me in full before your delivery.  If you insurance company will pay for your home birth, you will be reimbursed everything you paid me.  If you are unable to have your baby at home, either because of miscarriage or a sudden prenatal risk that requires a doctors care, the refund fee is approximately $75 per each prenatal/postpartum.  If you have to transport to the hospital during or after the birth, the fee remains the same, there is no refund.

The fee includes all prenatal visits , the assistants fee, attendance at your birth, postpartum care (up to six weeks), and routine lab work.   We do have an ultrasound machine in the office and I am able to determine such things as the sex of the baby as well as fetal age, etc.  The fee for that ultrasound is  included.  Should you want a diagnostic ultrasound, I will recommend a doctor you can see who will perform one for you.  I also will perform a water birth but you are responsible for renting/buying the labor pool.

I do not carry malpractice insurance (liability insurance) as the state law does not require it and it isnt available for Direct Entry Midwives.

Prenatal care is performed at the Home Birth Midwifery Services office. The prenatal schedule is as follows:  once every three weeks until 28 weeks, once every two weeks until 36 weeks, and then once a week until the birth.

Appointments usually last one hour.  At the first prenatal, a physical exam is performed, including labwork.  Medical and gynecologic history is taken, as well as the routine things we do at each visit, including blood pressure, pulse, urine analysis, checking for uterine growth and the babys position, weight check, checking for swelling and listening to the babys heart beat.  Childbirth education is available during prenatals.

I will be the primary midwife, and will bring at least one assistant midwife on your birth.  Please call me as soon as you feel changes in your body, which may indicate labor, including water breaking and early contractions.  I will monitor you on the phone and will arrive when it is determined that you are in active labor, or any time you would like me to come.

I will bring all the equipment necessary for the birth, including a doppler for monitoring the baby.  The emergency equipment, which I carry, includes an oxygen tank and DeLee suctioning equipment.  Perineal massage will be performed during the pushing stage of your labor in order to prevent tears.   Once the baby is born, he will remain with you unless there are complications.  A newborn exam will be performed within two hours of the birth.  All clean-up is performed by myself and my assistant .  My assistants and I will stay with you after the birth for at least three hours, longer if necessary.

Following the birth, I visit you at your house within 48 hours after delivery, more if necessary. You and the baby will then come into the office with the baby at one week, three weeks and six weeks.

If I were at another birth when you went into labor, I have several back-up midwives who's phone numbers will be available to you at the end of your pregnancy.

Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns you may have.  I believe that working together, we can provide a wonderful birth experience for you and your family!

Initial interview is free!
